Reflection on the WORD

Harvest is Rich – Faith: In today’s Gospel, great crowds were hungering for the Truth of Salvation.  Jesus proclaims, “The harvest is rich, but the labourers are few. . .” Ponder on: Do we hunger for Jesus’ Good News in our daily living?  And, if we do, then do we witness and ‘evangelise’ the faith with courage, zeal and humility?

Matthew 9:35-37

Jesus made a tour through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing all kinds of disease and all kinds of illness.

And when he saw the crowds he felt sorry for them because they were harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers to his harvest.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel while Jesus proclaimed passionately about God’s Plan of Salvation to all peoples, He was also deeply compassionate to those who were suffering in different ways.  Thus, He healed all those who were brought to Him.
  • Jesus wants us to be His servants to continue His work of proclaiming and building up His Kingdom that He has established.
  • Are you willing to cooperate with Jesus’ invitation to serve in His Kingdom and to show compassion to those who are in need?
