Reflection on the WORD

The Way, The Truth and The Life: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims clearly, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life . . . that fulfil My Father’s Will of offering Eternal Salvation to all peoples.  Ponder on: Do we over focus on: material success, social status, and other secular glory in our lives, in spite of God’s promptings to love Him more deeply?

John 14:6-10a, 13-14

Jesus said to Thomas: ‘I am the Way; the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father too. From this moment you know him and have seen him.

Philip said, ‘Lord, show us the Father and then we shall be satisfied.’

Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? ‘Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father, so how can you say, “Show us the Father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?’

‘Whatever you ask in my name I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • When Jesus revealed to Thomas that He is one with the Father; equal in dignity and divinity, He could not enlightenment the minds nor convert the hearts of His disciples.
  • How often do we, like Philip the apostle, also “reduce” the divinity of Jesus to our finite and fallible understanding of the Truth and the Good News of Salvation?
  • As Jesus promises that He will answer all our prayers, pray for the graces to know Jesus more deeply and let Him be our friend in our daily living.
