Reflection on the WORD

Witnesses of Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus commissions His Eleven apostles to proclaim the Good News of the gift of Eternal Salvation to all peoples.  Ponder on: Jesus assured His apostles that they will receive divine powers to witness to God’s Truth, Mercy and Love. Have you experienced the divine inspiration to witness to the Good News?

Mark 16:15-20

Jesus said to the Eleven, ‘Go out to the whole world; proclaim the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my name they will cast out devils; they will have the gift of tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands and be unharmed should they drink deadly poison; they will lay their hands on the sick, who will recover.’

And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven; there at the right hand of God he took his place, while they, going out, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the signs that accompanied it.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • When Jesus proclaimed the Gospel during His three years of public ministry, His message was accompanied by miraculous signs that revealed His divinity.
  • Jesus commissions each one of us also to proclaim the Good News of salvation to all peoples.  What “signs” of the Good News do people see in the way I live my daily life?
  • What do you find to be most challenging in “proclaiming” the Good News to others? Do you experience God’s Presence and strength        during such challenging times?
