Reflection on the WORD
Faith – 'Obstinacy, Blindness': In today’s Gospel, Jesus was deeply saddened by the crowd whose hearts were hardened and whose eyes were blind to the Truth of Salvation. Ponder on: Do we at times also ‘prefer’ to live a superficial life of the secular world; in spite of its meaningless, empty promises and false hopes?
Matthew 11:16-19
Jesus spoke to the crowds: ‘What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit in the market place: We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't be mourners.
‘For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He is possessed.” The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- · This passage warns us not to adopt the wrong attitudes towards the Gospel of Christ and our obedience to the official Teachings of the Church.
- · Many of us want God’s Truth and the Church’s teachings to accommodate our preferences and even in sinful ways. If they challenge our lifestyles, we tend to ignore, rationalize them away as “old fashioned/man made” and even reject them.
- · During this season of Advent, let us pay more attention to the Gospel Truths and the Church’s Teachings, and to follow them more sincerely and more faithfully as God Wills of us.
