Reflection on the WORD
Gratitude – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus cured ten lepers, but only the Samaritan praised Jesus and expressed his deep gratitude with humility to Him. Ponder on: Is Jesus disappointed with us, because as He always Blesses, Cares and Forgives us so unconditionally, our gratitude to Him is often superficial and frequently forgotten?
Luke 17:11-19
On the way to Jerusalem Jesus travelled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered one of the villages, ten lepers came to meet him. They stood some way off and called to him, ‘Jesus! Master! Take pity on us.’ When he saw them he said, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’
Now as they were going away they were cleansed. Finding himself cured, one of them turned back praising God at the top of his voice and threw himself at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was a Samaritan.
This made Jesus say, ‘Were not all ten made clean? The other nine, where are they? It seems that no one has come back to give praise to God, except this foreigner.’ And he said to the man, ‘Stand up and go on your way. Your faith has saved you.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- •This historical event shows how we can be very ungrateful to God for the abundant graces and blessings that we receive from Him daily.
- •A Jew does not mingle with Samaritans because they are outcasts and are not considered to be the chosen race. Yet, the Samaritan was the only leper amongst the ten who showed gratitude to God and praised Him for the cure.
- •Are we like the grateful Samaritan or are we like the nine others who took God’s Compassion for granted? How often do we thank God for His abundant blessings?
