Reflection on the WORD

“Rejection of Good News”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus laments to the crowds that their generation continues to reject the Good News of Salvation.  Ponder on, “The world we live in today is also filled with many people who also reject God’s Gift of Salvation.”  Pray for God’s Mercy to forgive and enlighten them to the Truth of the Gospels.

Matthew 11:16-19

Jesus spoke to the crowds: ‘What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit in the market place: We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't be mourners.

‘For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He is possessed.” The Son of Man came, eating and drinking, and they say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” Yet wisdom has been proved by her actions.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •Jesus' message of the Good News of salvation will produce true joy and spiritual freedom for those who will listen and accept its Truth.
  • •However; Jesus is also cautioning the crowds and us not to be selective and indifferent to His Gospel of salvation.
  • •Indifference dulls our hearts to God's promptings of the Truth.  What are the signs in your life that show you are open to God’s Good News of salvation and what are the hindrances?
