Reflection on the WORD
Mary’s Sorrows – Fidelity: In today’s Gospel, Simeon prophesied to Mary about her and her Child’s Suffering, for the Salvation of many. Ponder on, “Many go to fortune tellers to find out their future. In our faith, we are called to trust in God’s Providence to provide and care for us, in spite of the ‘sorrows’ of our lives.”
Luke 2:33-35
As the father and mother of Jesus stood wondering at the things that were being said about him, Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, ‘You see this child: he is destined for the fall and for the rising of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is rejected - and a sword will pierce your own soul too -- so that the secret thoughts of many may be laid bare.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- •Simeon blessed Mary and Joseph and prophesied the sufferings that both Mary and her child would undergo.
- •Mary was given the blessedness of being the mother of the Son of God. That blessedness included a sword that would pierce her heart when her Son would die on the cross. Mary received both a crown of joy and a cross of sorrow.
- •Mary’s joy was not diminished by her sorrow because of her faith, hope, and trust in God and His promises. Pray that like Mary, you would be able to bear any sorrow or pain with renewed faith, hope and trust in God.
