Reflection on the WORD

“Kingdom of God”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims to the crowd that “God’s Kingdom” given as a gift of faith to us, is present and growing in our hearts daily.  God gives us this divine gift to nurture it responsibly to maturity, in Christ-like ways.  “Am I willing to embrace the crosses that come my way?

Mark 4:26-33

Jesus said to the crowds, ‘This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man throws seed on the land. Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing; how, he does not know. Of its own accord the land produces first the shoot, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the crop is ready, he loses no time: he starts to reap because the harvest has come.’

He also said, ‘What can we say that the kingdom is like? What parable can we find for it? It is like a mustard seed which, the time of its sowing in the soil, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth. Yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub of them all and puts out big branches so that the birds of the air can shelter in its shade.’

Using many parables like these, he spoke the word to them, so far as they were capable of understanding it.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •The invisible hand of God constantly blesses us with His presence in our daily living and sustains and keeps the world and universe in its order.  These are the unseen miracles of each day.
  • •Do we think that it is by counting our calories, going to the gym and visiting our doctors that we are alive today?  No, it is God who is keeping us alive as He loves us deeply.  How often do we take God’s Loving Ways for granted?
  • How much love do we show God in return?  Do we pray fervently and worship Him wholeheartedly in the Eucharist?  Do we love Him in others?
