Reflection on the WORD

“Fear of Jesus”: In today’s Gospel, the chief priests and scribes were afraid of Jesus’ , passionate Teachings and Actions, which were attracting large crowds away from them.  So, they began a scheme to kill Jesus.  Ponder on, “Do we rationalise and justify our attitudes, behaviours and lifestyle, to compromise our faith in Jesus?”

Mark 11:15-18

When Jesus reached Jerusalem, he went into the Temple and began driving out  those who were selling and buying there; he upset the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who were selling pigeons. Nor would he allow anyone to carry anything through the Temple. And he taught them and said, ‘Does not scripture say: My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples? But you have turned it into a robber’s den.’

This came to the ears of the chief priests and the scribes, and they tried to find some way of doing away with him; they were afraid of him because the people were carried away by his teaching.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •Jesus assures us that if we have strong faith in God, our prayers can be considered already answered by Him.
  • •Thus, some of the main reasons why our prayers are not answered are: we ask God half-heartedly, our faith in Him is weak or we are not sincere in our relationship with Him when we go to Him with our needs.
  • •When we seek God’s help, we have to presume that our love for Him is sincere and real; not superficial as through He is there merely to give us what we want in life, otherwise He is not important in our lives.  Ponder on this truth more deeply.
