Reflection on the WORD
Divine Peace: In today’s Gospel, Jesus bequeaths “His Peace” to His disciples, that the world cannot give. This divine Peace will sustain them in the crises of their faith, when Jesus is persecuted and crucified. Ponder on, “Am I conscious of Jesus’ Peace in my heart, in times of the pains and crises of my life?”

John 14:27-31a
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you, a peace the world cannot give, this is my gift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me say: I am going away and shall return. If you loved me you would have been glad to know that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
‘I have told you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe. I shall not talk with you any longer, because the prince of this world is on his way. He has no power over me, but the world must be brought to know that I love the Father and that I am doing exactly what the Father told me.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- •The ‘peace’ in the secular world is avoidance of trouble and a refusal to face unpleasant things. However, Jesus promised to give us His peace “that the world cannot give.”
- •In this peace of Christ, even though we may be surrounded by sorrow, pain and suffering Jesus’ Spirit that is within us will conquer all the fears and anxieties of our lives if we dare to trust Him.
- •In the eyes of the world the cross stood for shame, humiliation, and defeat. However, in the Cross of Christ we find true peace and reconciliation with God. Pray for this peace that the world cannot rob you of.
