Reflection on the WORD
Jesus – Messiah: In today’s Gospel, Jesus affirms firmly and clearly, that He has come not to abolish the Laws of the Prophets, but to fufil them. We are to read, study, ponder on and pray with the whole Bible, with the clear view and firm faith that Sacred Scriptures are revealingJesus who is the Messiah for all peoples.
Matthew 5:17-19
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them. I tell you solemnly, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, shall disappear from the Law until all its purpose is achieved.
‘Therefore, the man who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the man who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of Heaven.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- •The Prophets and the Law are part of the salvation history of the Jewish people.
- •However, with time, the Jews rejected the prophets and their religious leaders distorted the Law. So Jesus became man to set the Laws right and fulfilled it through His death and resurrection.
- •In what ways have we distorted our Christian Faith and the Moral Teachings of our Church which mirror the Good News that Jesus preached and taught? Is our pride, self-centeredness and self-glory the cause of such distortion?
