Reflection on the WORD

“Living the Faith”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus used the “Parable of the Lamp” to proclaim our need to witness our faith with courage, integrity and passion.  Ponder on, “Are we timid and passive in sharing our faith experiences and speaking about God?  Set aside time to learn about the faith and be proud of it.

Mark 4:21-25

Jesus said to the crowd, ‘Is a lamp brought in to be put under a tub or under the bed? Surely to be put on the lamp-stand? For there is nothing hidden, but it must be disclosed, nothing kept secret except to be brought to light. Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!’

He also said to them, ‘Take notice of what you are hearing. The standard you use will be used for you -- and you will receive more besides; anyone who has, will be given more; anyone who has not, will be deprived even of what he has.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •The Word of God is like our “lamp” that Jesus referred to in today’s Gospel.  It has to be proclaimed at all times and to all peoples.
  • •We are each very blessed with the faith to believe in the Good News of salvation that is found in the Word of God.  Are we not obliged, out of gratitude to God to make it known to others so that they too will see and follow God’s Light that leads to eternal salvation?
  • •Let us ask the Holy Spirit to give us the courage to be the instrument of God’s goodness, peace and Truth to others in our daily lives.
