Reflection on the WORD

Divine Power: In today’s Gospel, Jesus taught with great Wisdom and expelled demons with His Divine Power.  When we live in the Peace and Joy of Christ, and our love and compassion is Christ-like, we will undoubtedly experience the divine power of Jesus in all that we do, say and live.

Mark 1:21b-27

On the Sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. And his teaching made a deep impression on them because, unlike the scribes, he taught them with authority.

In their synagogue there was a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted, ‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God.’ But Jesus rebuked it saying, ‘Be quiet! Come out of him!’ And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and with a loud cry went out of him.

The people were so astonished that they started asking one another what it all meant, saying, ‘Here is a teaching that is new, and with authority behind it: he gives orders even to unclean spirits and they obey him.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •God the Father’s divine Power and His Spirit was fully present in Jesus during His Public Ministries.  Thus, He had divine Authority, Wisdom to Teach and Preach, Courage to be Just and Humility to forgive at all times.
  • God’s Spirit too is within each of us to help us teach, preach, be just, to forgive and to proclaim the Good News as Jesus would want us to serve.
  • •Do we allow the difficulties and pains of serving and living in God’s ways to discourage and dampen our desires or do we face them courageously as challenges to love God more fully?
