Reflection on the WORD

Wisdom – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that when we face especially painful and difficult challenges, pray for the graces to have a discerning mind and heart that are open to God’s Will.  Ponder on, “Only God’s Will, Ways and Love will give us true peace, joy and fulfillment in our lives.”

Luke 12:54-59

Jesus said to the crowds, ‘When you see a cloud looming up in the west you say at once that rain is coming, and so it does. And when the wind is from the south you say it's going to be hot, and it is.  Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the face of the earth and the sky. How is it you do not know how to interpret these times?

‘Why not judge for yourselves what is upright? For example: when you are going to court with your opponent, make an effort to settle with him on the way, or he may drag you before the judge and the judge hand you over to the officer and the officer have you thrown into prison. I tell you, you will not get out till you have paid the very last penny.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •Gravity is a law of nature that is not invented, but discovered by human beings. All things must obey this law or suffer the consequences.
  • •Likewise, there is a natural moral law that must be obeyed because it is God’s revelation. If we insist on what we think as right and, and not listen   to the Church’s Teachings and to God’s Word, we will suffer the consequences.
  • •Pray for the grace to be more humble, open and receptive to God’s revelation. The more insistent we are on our own ways, the more we may be self-centered instead of seeking to live in God’s ways.
