Ascension of the Lord: Thursday 21st May, 2020 May 21, 2020

Reflection on the WORD

Ascension of Jesus: In today’s Gospel, before Jesus ascends into heaven (Lk 24:51), He commissioned His disciples to proclaim the Gospel and baptise peoples of all nations in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Pray with deep gratitude to God for the gift of faith.  Many have died for the faith.  How much sacrifice would you make for Jesus?

Matthew 28:16-20

The eleven disciples set out for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged to meet them. When they saw him they fell down before him, though some hesitated.

Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And look, I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Today we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension. We are reaffirming the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus that offers eternal life for those who believe in Him and live the Good News of salvation.
  • Jesus reminds us that we are each challenged to make this Truth known to others through our thoughts, words and deeds in our daily living, so that all may come to receive the gift of eternal life from Jesus.
  • Have you taken your responsibility seriously in making Christ known e.g. by speaking to people or introducing someone to the RCIA programme to learn more about the Catholic faith?
