Reflection on the WORD

Eternal Life – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims that it is His Father’s Will that all people be saved from their sinfulness and be given the gift of Eternal Life through Him.  Yet, “Do we live the faith in Jesus, with greater zeal, deeper commitment and joyous hope when we receive Jesus in the Eucharist?

John 6:35-40

Jesus said to the crowd: ‘I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever hunger; no one who believes in me will ever thirst. But, as I have told you, you can see me and still you do not believe.

‘Everyone whom the Father gives me will come to me; I will certainly not reject anyone who comes to me, because I have come from heaven, not to do my own will, but to do the will of him who sent me. Now the will of him who sent me is that I should lose nothing of all that he has given to me, but that I should raise it up on the last day.

‘It is my Father's will that whoever sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and that I should raise that person up on the last day.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s modern medical advancements and general higher standards healthy living, the reality is that we still have a limited life span here on earth.
  • We tend to spend a lot of money, time and attention on living a healthier and longer life.
  • Today’s Gospel is very consoling because Jesus assures us that when our lives here on earth end, He is giving us an “ageless and timeless” life. Should we not focus our attention and time more on this after life?
