Reflection on the WORD

God Almighty: In today’s Gospel John proclaims that God is almighty.  He created the universe and everything that exists.  More importantly, God in His fullness of Love, created the human person, in His Image and Likeness.  He loves us at all times and when we accept Him, we become His precious children.

John 1:1, 9-14

In the beginning was the Word: the Word was with God and the Word was God. The Word was the real light that gives light to everyone; he was coming into the world. He was in the world that had come into being through him, and the world did not recognise him. He came to his own and his own people did not accept him. But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believed in his name who were born not from human stock or human desire or human will but from God himself.

The Word became flesh, he lived among us, and we saw his glory, the glory that he has from the Father as only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Christianity is the only religion which believes in the Divine Being incarnating as a human creature like us. This is a great leap of faith; no wonder “the world did not recognize him”.
  • Jesus the Second Person of the Holy Trinity became man so that humanity need no longer be ignorant of its Creator, nor live in darkness and fear. This truth is indeed the mystery and the joy of Christmas.
  • The holy and joyful feast of the Nativity of the LORD must transform the way we understand our dignity as human persons and all the people with whom we relate, live and work with daily.
