Reflection on the WORD
“I Chose You”: In today’s Gospel, with deep affection Jesus says to His disciples, “You did not choose Me; no I chose you, and I commission you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit that will last.” It is a divine gift and great honour to be chosen by Jesus to be His disciple. How can I be a faithful disciple of Jesus daily?
John 15:12-17
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘This is my commandment: love one another, as I have loved you. No one can have greater love than to lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do what I command you. I shall no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know the master's business; I call you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have learnt from my Father.
‘You did not choose me, no, I chose you; and I commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit that will last; so that the Father will give you anything you ask him in my name. My command to you is to love one another.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- •We will experience Jesus’ boundless and intimate love, “If you (as Jesus promised) do what I command you, I shall no longer call you servants . . . but friends.”
- •Jesus also promised, “I will make known to you everything that I have learnt from my Father.” This means that if we live in God’s ways, we will experience His mystery unfolding in our life. There is no greater grace and gift than to have such spiritual experiences of God; it would be a foretaste of eternal life.
- •We are each challenged daily by the Risen Christ’s Spirit, who resides within us, to bear witness to this truth by living it out fully and faithfully so that all peoples will come to know our loving God and become “His friends.”
