Octave 7th Day December 31, 2018

Reflection on the WORD

Last Calendar Day 2018: In today’s Gospel, Jesus reveals that He is the Real Light to everyone, but the world did not recognize nor accept Him.  Did you live a God centered year in 2018?  What were the main challenges?  How was God Present in your life?  Pray for the wisdom of discernment to live more fully in God’s Love and Ways.

Jn 1:1,9-14,18

In the beginning was the Word: the Word was with God and the Word was God. The Word was the real light that gives light to everyone; he was coming into the world. He was in the world that had come into being through him, and the world did not recognise him. He came to his own and his own people did not accept him. But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believed in his name who were born not from human stock or human desire or human will but from God himself.

The Word became flesh, he lived among us, and we saw his glory, the glory that he has from the Father as only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. No one has ever seen God; it is the only Son, who is close to the Father's heart, who has made him known.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •In today’s Gospel, the evangelist John tells us, “In the beginning was the Word: the Word was with God and the Word was God.”  The Word became flesh in Jesus and dwelt amongst us.
  • •Jesus came into the world as “the real Light for everyone” who had been living in the darkness of depression and sin.  Yet, the world did not recognise Him and many continued to reject Him.  But, for those who did accept Him, they received abundant blessings.
  • •Ponder on how you “accepted” and “rejected” Jesus during the year 2018, and what is the Spirit saying to you for the coming year 2019.  Listen to its promptings in your heart.
