Advent 2nd Wk December 14, 2018
Reflection on the WORD
Resistance to Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims with deep sorrow, that the Good News of Salvation is falling on deaf ears and hardened hearts. Ponder on, “Are we open to the Holy Spirit’s promptings that invite us to love, forgive and serve as Jesus has shown us or do we routinely live our faith?
Mt 11:16-19
Jesus spoke to the crowds: ‘What comparison can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit in the market place: We played the pipes for you, and you wouldn't dance; we sang dirges, and you wouldn't be mourners.
‘For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He is possessed.” The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- •In today’s Gospel, Jesus exposes the scribes and Pharisees for being blind and obstinate towards receiving the Good News that Jesus proclaimed through His Words of Wisdom and deeds of miracles.
- •How do you live out your faith daily? Would you describe it as more of a Pharisaic faith or a fearless and passionate faith like that of John the Baptist?
- •How can we be more Christ-like in the way we relate to people, especially those who refuse to listen to the Good News nor obey the moral teachings of the Church through living a life of infidelity, greed, pride, etc.? Pray for special graces during Advent to live more fully in God’s love and ways.
