Reflection on the WORD

Cleansing the Temple: In today’s Gospel, Jesus drove the money changers out of the Temple because they have turned a house of prayer into a bandits’ den.”  Ponder on the way we live our faith: do we handle the Bible with reverence and receive the Holy Eucharist with deep gratitude?  Have we secularized our faith in any way?

(Lk 19:45-48

Jesus went into the Temple and began driving out those who were busy trading, saying to them, ‘According to scripture, my house shall be a house of prayer but you have turned it into a bandits' den.’

He taught in the Temple every day. The chief priests and the scribes, in company with the leading citizens, tried to do away with him, but they could not find a way to carry this out because the whole people hung on his words.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus was upset with the people who had profaned the sacred space of worship of the Temple with their cheating.
  • The Temple was sacred space also because people went there to find the closeness of God’s presence where they could pray, ponder and present all their personal concerns and needs to God.
  • Do you have a “sacred space” in your home or a corner in your room where you can be more fully connected with God?  Speak to the Lord on how you can deepen your relationship with Him.
