Reflection on the WORD
“Spiritual Blindness”: In today’s Gospel, the blind man begged Jesus to have pity on him and cure him. When Jesus called him, he threw off his cloak, jumped up and went to Jesus. Are we “spiritually blind”? Are we willing to throw away our false securities (re: “cloak”) and jump up and follow Jesus promptly?
Mk 10:46-52
Jesus told this parable, ‘A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it but found none. He said to his vinedresser, “For three years now I have been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and finding none. Cut it down: why should it be taking up the ground?”
“Sir,” the man replied, “leave it one more year and give me time to dig round it and manure it: it may bear fruit next year; if not, then you can cut it down.” ’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- In today’s parable, we are the fig tree and Jesus is the Mediator between God and us. Jesus stands beside the Father and continues to intercede for us.
- A good tree is identified by its good fruits. Jesus, John the Baptist, Paul, James, John and Peter; in fact the entire New Testament tells us that this is the way to identify genuine followers of Christ.
- St Paul says that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are fruits of the Spirit. Look for these spiritual fruits in your life. Do you have them?
