Reflection on the WORD
Faith – Bearing Fruit?: In today’s Gospel, through the parable of the “fig tree” Jesus reminded the crowd that, if our faith does not “bear fruit” because we are not using God’s blessings for the good and salvation of others, then God will give His blessings to more faithful persons. Are you bearing Christ-like fruits in your daily living?
Lk 13:6-9
Jesus told this parable, ‘A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it but found none. He said to his vinedresser, “For three years now I have been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and finding none. Cut it down: why should it be taking up the ground?”
“Sir,” the man replied, “leave it one more year and give me time to dig round it and manure it: it may bear fruit next year; if not, then you can cut it down.” ’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- In today’s parable, we are the fig tree and Jesus is the Mediator between God and us. Jesus stands beside the Father and continues to intercede for us.
- A good tree is identified by its good fruits. Jesus, John the Baptist, Paul, James, John and Peter; in fact the entire New Testament tells us that this is the way to identify genuine followers of Christ.
- St Paul says that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are fruits of the Spirit. Look for these spiritual fruits in your life. Do you have them?
