Reflection on the WORD
Discerning Life: In today’s Gospel, Jesus reprimands the crowd for using their intellect to interpret their needs in life, instead of determining how to live morally. Are we living a discerning life; especially when there are painful challenges in relationships or in our vocation? Pray for God’s Wisdom to live His Will.
Lk 12:54-59
Jesus said to the crowds, ‘When you see a cloud looming up in the west you say at once that rain is coming, and so it does. And when the wind is from the south you say it's going to be hot, and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the face of the earth and the sky. How is it you do not know how to interpret these times?
‘Why not judge for yourselves what is upright? For example: when you are going to court with your opponent, make an effort to settle with him on the way, or he may drag you before the judge and the judge hand you over to the officer and the officer have you thrown into prison. I tell you, you will not get out till you have paid the very last penny.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- In today’s gospel, Jesus chides the crowds and calls them ‘Hypocrites!’ who know how to interpret the times and yet chose to turn a deaf ear to His call for repentance.
- Many people today prefer to follow the dictates of the secular world, the lure of power, money and possession of material things. They continue to ignore Jesus’ call to conversion.
- What must you do to clear your ears of the noisy garbage of this secular world and exclusively hear Jesus’ call to follow Him.
