Reflection on the WORD
Commitment: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims a radical Gospel to His disciples. Those who wish to be His disciples that offers eternal Salvation are expected to have a single-minded commitment to God. Our love for God must be our highest priority and the focus and foundation of our daily living.
Lk 12:49-53
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I have come to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were blazing already! There is a baptism I must still receive, and what constraint I am under until it is completed!
‘Do you suppose that I am here to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on, a household of five will be divided: three against two and two against three; father opposed to son, son to father, mother to daughter, daughter to mother, mother-in-law to daughter-in-law, daughter-in-law to mother-in-law.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- In today’s Gospel Jesus startled His disciples when He declared that He would “set fire on earth and cause family division” instead of bringing peace to the world.
- The essence of Christianity is to live the Father’s Will of the Good News of Salvation though following the life and teachings of Christ. Such commitment demands a loyalty that put God above our family and all other relationships that we value regardless of who they are.
- Such challenges of the faith require a commitment that is beyond our human will. Ask Jesus for the graces you need to fulfil this Will of God in your daily living.
