Reflection on the WORD
Asking for Signs: In today’s Gospel, Jesus was upset at those who asked Him for “a sign”, but in reality had no faith that He is the Messiah. When we ask Jesus for “signs” of His Love and Mercy for us, do we do so, with respectful love and trust in Him, or are we more interested in our own needs?
Lk 11:29-32
The crowds got even bigger and he addressed them, ‘This is an evil generation; it is asking for a sign. The only sign it will be given is the sign of Jonah. For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of man be a sign to this generation.
‘On Judgement Day the Queen of the South will stand up against the people of this generation and be their condemnation, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, look, there is something greater than Solomon here.
‘On Judgement Day the men of Nineveh will appear against this generation and be its condemnation, because when Jonah preached they repented; and, look, there is something greater than Jonah here.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- Jesus rebuked the Scribes and Pharisees for their lack of faith by saying, “This is an evil generation; it is asking for a sign.
- •Do we, like many people, at times also interpret signs of the world in narrow, negative and superstitious ways?
- Allow Christ’s Spirit to inspire and instruct you in His ways. Pray for the graces to be open and obedient to its promptings so that you will be able to live a life that is more wholesome and fulfilling.
