Reflection on the WORD

Love like Jesus: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims a “radical love” that no other wise person has uttered.  Jesus urges us to “love our enemies, do good to those who hate us, bless those who curse us, give to those in need without expecting any benefits.  Pray daily for the wisdom to become more like Jesus.

Lk 6:27-31,36-38

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I say this to you who are listening: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who treat you badly.  To anyone who slaps you on one cheek, present the other cheek as well; to anyone who takes your cloak from you, do not refuse your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your property back from someone who takes it. Treat others as you would like people to treat you.

‘Be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate. Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and there will be gifts for you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap; because the standard you use will be the standard used for you.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • As disciples of Jesus, we are all called to love others unconditionally and fully as Christ has shown us.
  • We can live in this way only when we are able to “see Christ in others” constantly and see the connectedness of ourselves with others.  Such spiritual truths will help us appreciate that we are brothers and sisters in “God’s family”.
  • God loves us so infinitely and so abundantly. Pray for the strength to share such love with each other in the “family” and be a source of unity and peace to others.
