Reflection on the WORD
“Faith – Deep or Hypocritical?”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus was upset at the Pharisees for asking Him for a sign to test whether He is truly the Messiah or not. The Pharisees were living a hypocritical faith. Ponder on, “When we are not sincere in the way we live our faith, can we expect Jesus to respond to our prayers for miracles and other needs?”
Mark 8:11-13
The Pharisees came up and started a discussion with Jesus; they demanded of him a sign from heaven, to put him to the test.
And with a profound sigh he said, ‘Why does this generation demand a sign? In truth I tell you, no sign shall be given to this generation.’ And, leaving them again, he re-embarked and went away to the other side.

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- Like the Pharisees in today’s Gospel, we too often ask of God signs to re-assure our faith in Him. As though it is not enough to trust in a loving heavenly Father, we look for more assurances and at times, guarantees.
- Jesus is the eternal Sign from God; we do not need other signs or guarantees. Through Jesus, we will never be lost and lonely.
-
Yet, how often have we failed to look to Jesus for our needs and direction in life? Pray for a deeper faith in the Lord.
