Reflection on the WORD

“Temples of God” – Faith: Jesus proclaimed about destroying the Jerusalem Temple that took forty-six years to build; and that He would raise it up in three days. Jesus was referring to the Holy Temple of His Body that will Rise again after His Crucifixion. Ponder on, “Are we conscious that our body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit; and should be kept holy?”

Luke 21:5-9

When some were talking about the Temple, remarking how it was adorned with fine stonework and votive offerings, Jesus said, ‘All these things you are staring at now - the time will come when not a single stone will be left on another; everything will be destroyed.’

And they put to him this question, ‘Master,’ they said, ‘when will this happen, then, and what sign will there be that it is about to take place?’ But he said, ‘Take care not to be deceived, because many will come using my name and saying, “I am the one” and “The time is near at hand.” Refuse to join them. And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be terrified, for this is something that must happen first, but the end will not come at once.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus warns that there will be signs around us that can be misleading. As his faithful followers, we must learn to discern so as not to be deceived by the influences of the world and of false prophets who instil fear in us.
  • When we have fear in our hearts do not nurse them. Instead place our faith in God who will always be there through the Holy Spirit to lead, protect and provide us with all our needs in life.
  • As the Lord’s disciples, we are called to pray, “Come Lord Jesus, shepherd of our lives, and source of our strength and peace in our fears and anxieties”.
