Reflection on the WORD

Jesus in Personal Prayer” – Faith: In today’s Gospel, “Jesus spent the whole night in prayer to God; His Father. The next morning, He chose His apostles;proclaimed the Gospel, cured the sick, expelled demons. Ponder on, “Like Jesus, we too must develop an intimate union with God, through our personal prayer life; and discerning His Will daily.”

Luke 6:12-13, 17-19

Jesus went onto the mountain to pray; and he spent the whole night in prayer to God. When day came he summoned his disciples and picked out twelve of them; he called them ‘apostles’.

He then came down with them and stopped at a piece of level ground where there was a large gathering of his disciples, with a great crowd of people from all parts of Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon who had come to hear him and to be cured of their diseases. People tormented by unclean spirits were also cured, and everyone in the crowd was trying to touch him because power came out of him that cured them all.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus went into the mountains to pray the whole night.  Why did Jesus feel the need to pray?  Why do we need to pray?
  • In prayer, away from the busyness of the day of teaching and healing, He wanted to be “reconnected” with His Father in an intimate way through His prayers.
  • If we do not pray enough, our life not find deep peace and our services for God would not bear fruit abundantly.  Ponder on this truth and speak to the Lord from your heart as you review how you live your daily life.
