Reflection on the WORD

Jesus’ Compassionate Love” – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus was moved with deep Compassion for the widow’s only son who had died, and raised him to life. And, everyone glorified God.” Ponder on, “Jesus too has performed many miracles out of His Compassionate Love for us. Pray for the grace of deep gratitude to God; and not take Him for granted.”

Luke 7:11b-17

Jesus went to a town called Nain, accompanied by his disciples and a great number of people. Now when he was near the gate of the town there was a dead man being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a considerable number of the townspeople was with her.

When the Lord saw her he felt sorry for her and said to her, ‘Don't cry.’ Then he went up and touched the bier and the bearers stood still, and he said, ‘Young man, I tell you: get up.’

And the dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him to his mother. Everyone was filled with awe and glorified God saying, ‘A great prophet has risen up among us; God has visited his people.’ And this view of him spread throughout Judaea and all over the countryside.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel, Jesus’ compassion for the widow’s only son shows us that Our Lord’s love for us is very personal.
  • Our Lord’s relationship with us is not simply a “Giver” of what we need in life, but one that longs to develop an intimate relationship with us.
  • Is the practice of my faith contributing to this personal relationship with the Lord?  Ponder on this and speak to the Lord from your heart.
