Reflection on the WORD

God’s Abundant Blessings” – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus used the image of a “lamp” to invite us to use God’s abundant blessings to witness and serve His Father’s Will. Ponder on, “When we have gratitude to God for His Blessings, we will desire to serve and glorify Him. Otherwise, we may fall into the temptations of our self-centred living.”

Mark 4:21-25

Jesus said to the crowd: ‘Would you bring in a lamp and put it under a tub or under the bed? Surely to be put on the lamp-stand? For there is nothing hidden, but it must be disclosed, nothing kept secret except to be brought to light. Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!’

He also said to them, ‘Take notice of what you are hearing. The standard you use will be used for you -- and you will receive more besides; anyone who has, will be given more; anyone who has not, will be deprived even of what he has.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • A lamp gives light of itself. It lights up all the surrounding area, illuminating every part of the room that is within its reach.
  • Similarly, the Lord calls us to share of ourselves with those around us.
  • The more we give, the more we will receive. Let us pray for the grace to give ourselves to all people as God wills it.
