Reflection on the WORD

Jesus’ Authority and Power”: In today’s Gospel, Jesus revealed His Divine Authority: in His Teachings, and in chasing the cheaters out of the Temple as it is His Father’s house of worship. But, the chief priests and scribes felt threatened. Ponder on, “We fear God, when we live a sinful life. But, we will be filled with love and great joy, if we live His Will!”

Luke 19:45-48

Jesus went into the Temple and began driving out those who were selling.  ‘According to scripture,’ he said ‘my house will be a house of prayer. But you have turned it into a robbers’ den.’

He taught in the Temple every day. The chief priests and the scribes, with the support of the leading citizens, tried to do away with him, but they did not see how they could carry this out because the people as a whole hung on his words.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Jesus was upset with the people who had profaned the sacred space of worship of the Temple with their cheating.
  • The Temple was sacred space also because people went there to find the closeness of God’s presence where they could pray, ponder and present all their personal concerns and needs to God.
  • Do you have a “sacred space” in your home or a corner in your room where you can be more fully connected with God?  Speak to the Lord on how you can deepen your relationship with Him.
