Reflection on the WORD

Holiness in Suffering for Christ: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims to His disciples, “You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into Joy. . . I shall see you again; and your hearts will be full of Joy; that no one shall take from you.”  Ponder on: Pray for the graces to transcend the trials and sufferings of living our faith.  Unite them with Jesus’ Sufferings and Cross, and then experience the Joy of His Resurrection.

John 16:20-23a

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘In all truth I tell you, you will be weeping and wailing while the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy.

‘A woman in childbirth suffers, because her time has come; but when she has given birth to the child she forgets the suffering in her joy that a human being has been born into the world. So it is with you: you are sad now, but I shall see you again, and your hearts will be full of joy, and that joy no one shall take from you. When that day comes, you will not ask me any questions.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Many of us often wonder why we suffer. However, God allows us to experience trials in our path of life for a reason; often to help us grow stronger and become more faithful to Him.
  • As long as we trust Him and keep doing His Will, despite all the pains we face, we will definitely see the light of day.
  • As long as we trust God, despite the problems that arise, we will find peace and happiness; a peace and happiness that ‘no one can take away from you’
