Reflection on the WORD

Second Coming of Christ – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaimed that the “End of the world” would come unexpectedly.  Ponder on: We are all called to live our lives with a sincere faith that loves God deeply and has great hopes in Him.  When we do not put God at the centreof our lives, we will never have the deep peace and fulfilment that only God can give.

Luke 17:31b-35, 37

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘When that Day comes, no one on the housetop, with his possessions in the house, must come down to collect them, nor must anyone in the fields turn back. Remember Lot's wife. Anyone who tries to preserve his life will lose it; and anyone who loses it will keep it safe.

‘I tell you, on that night, when two are in one bed, one will be taken, the other left;  when two women are grinding corn together, one will be taken, the other left.’ The disciples spoke up and asked, ‘Where, Lord?’ He said, ‘Where the body is, there too will the vultures gather.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • ·       Jesus warns that Judgment Day will come suddenly without warning, when we least expect it; when everything seems to be going normally.
  • ·       When Judgment Day comesall our worldly possessions and material wealth, knowledge, positions of power and the like will have no significance. The Lord will only ask, “How much have you loved me and others?”
  • ·       Be ready and be watchful so that we will not be drawn into a spiritual lethargy by our day-to-day worldly concerns.
