Reflection on the WORD

God as Loving Father: In today’s Gospel, Jesus assures us that His Father in heaven Loves us infinitely and at all times.  He is Full of Mercy and Compassion.  Ponder on: To embrace God’s Love and Mercy, it would be helpful to reflect on our experiences of human mercy and deep compassionate love.  Then, pray for the grace to experience God’s Infinite Mercy and Love.

Luke 11:9-13

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘So I say to you: Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; everyone who searches finds; everyone who knocks will have the door opened.

‘What father among you, if his son asked for a fish, would hand him a snake? Or if he asked for an egg, hand him a scorpion? If you then, evil as you are, know how to give your children what is good, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Many of us love our children and family naturally and give them the very best of all that we have, often spoiling them in the process. We call that “love.”
  • God our Father in today’s Gospel is infinitely more loving. Such divine and unconditional love is beyond our human comprehension. Understandably so as our experiences of human love is always conditional.
  • Thank God sincerely from your heart for His infinite love for us.  Then ask Him, “Lord, how can I love you more?”
