Reflection on the WORD
The Beatitudes – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims the “Beatitudes” of those who are spiritually fulfilled’ in God. The secular world would not comprehend such Divine Truths. Ponder on: When we love God humbly and faithfully, we will discover the Truth in the “Beatitudes”. Pride is a “self-centred attitude that destroys God’s Truth in our hearts.
Matthew 5:2b-10
This is what Jesus taught his disciples:
How blessed are the poor in spirit: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
Blessed are the gentle: they shall have the earth as inheritance.
Blessed are those who mourn: they shall be comforted.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for uprightness: they shall have their fill.
Blessed are the merciful: they shall have mercy shown them.
Blessed are the pure in heart: they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: they shall be recognised as children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of uprightness: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- The Beatitudes becomes the “mantra” of our life, if we believe in Jesus the Son of God, who has come to give us eternal life.
- Each of these Beatitude will speak to us and touch us differently or we would find some of them particularly difficult to live in our daily life.
- All these Beatitudes guide us to be Christ-like and for this we need to “die to ourselves” so that the Truth of Christ can be made present in our daily living.
