Reflection on the WORD

Loving Jesus – Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus proclaims to His disciples, “Whoever loves Me, will be loved by My Father. . . and We will make a home in him.”  Ponder on: Do we seek and strive to love Jesus, and live God our Father’s Will as faithfully as we can?  Pray for God’s continued Inspirations, Protective Love, and Care for all peoples.

John 14:21, 23-26

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me; and whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and reveal myself to him.’

‘Anyone who loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shall come to him and make a home in him. Anyone who does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not my own: it is the word of the Father

who sent me. I have said these things to you while still with you; but the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all I have said to you.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • In today’s Gospel, Jesus says, “Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me.”  Jesus is asserting that those who claim to love Him, but do not live out the love in their daily living is in effect not loving Him.
  • The more we are able to live out our love for Jesus, the more effectively will the Holy Spirit be able to help us grow in our knowledge of God and deepen our relationship with Him.
  • Do you listen attentively to God's word and live it daily or do you live your faith routinely and unreflectively?  How is the Spirit challenging you to live your faith more fully each day?
