Reflection on the WORD

Fears – Faith: In today’s Gospel, King Herod was filled with guilt and fears for having beheaded John the Baptist, as he could have come back to life.  Ponder on: When we sin; more so when they are serious sins, our guilt can haunt us.  However, when we love God with sincerity, we will find God’s Peace, Joy and Love in our hearts and our life.

Luke 9:7-9

Herod the tetrarch had heard about all that was being done by Jesus; and he was puzzled, because some people were saying that John had risen from the dead, others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life.

But Herod said, ‘John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?’ And he was anxious to see Jesus.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •Many people were eager to meet Jesus in person because of what He could do for them e.g. heal them of their illnesses, forgive their sins, and expel demons, etc.
  • •Herod also wanted to meet Jesus but for a different reason. He was suspicious and insecure and wanted to find out if Jesus was a threat to him.
  • •What about us? Are we eager to know more about Jesus only because of what He can do for us or because Jesus is our Saviour and Lord and He teaches us how to live as children of God?
