Reflection on the WORD
Jesus, the Humble Saviour: In today’s Gospel, Jesus prophesied that He will Suffer, Die and Rise from His Death in Jerusalem. Ponder on: Jesus is inviting us to pray for the strength and wisdom to be more humble like Him, in the daily living of the Gospel of Salvation. Is our response wholehearted or lukewarm?
Matthew 20:17-19, 25-28
Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, and on the road he took the Twelve to one side and said to them, ‘Now we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man is about to be handed over to the chief priests and scribes. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the pagans to be mocked and scourged and crucified; and on the third day he will rise again.’
Jesus said, ‘You know that among the pagans the rulers lord it over them, and their great men make their authority felt. This is not to happen among you . No; anyone who wants to be great among you must be your servant, and anyone who wants to be first among you must be your slave, just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- •We try to serve one another for our salvation and for the salvation of all peoples as Jesus has shown us. How willing and selfless are you in your daily service of others?
- •We are baptized into the kingship of Jesus. This does not mean that we are to lord over people. Jesus says: “Anyone who wants to be great among you must be your servant.”
- •Our secular society measures success in terms of the amount of wealth, influence and position. However, Jesus measures greatness in terms of the Christ-like qualities that we have and live daily.
