Reflection on the WORD

Jesus’ Compassionate Love: In today’s Gospel, Jesus cured the sick out of His deep Compassion and Love for them.  Ponder on: Jesus also loves each one of us deeply and compassionately.  Do we bring our needs to Jesus with a sincere love for Him, and not “use” Jesus for our needs, with little love for Him?

Mark 6:53-56

Having made the crossing, Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret and tied up. No sooner had they steppedout of the boat than people recognised him, and started hurrying all through the countryside and brought the sick on stretchers to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he went, to village or town or farm, they laid down the sick in the open spaces, begging him to let them touch even the fringe of his cloak. And all those who touched him were cured.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •Imagine the Gospel scene of the multitude of the sick, the dying and the destitute constantly surrounding Jesus.
  • •Jesus was neither numbed by such great and real sufferings nor was dragged into despair by such great needs. He always responded personally and compassionately, and never treated them as “masses” of people in need.
  • •Are we personally affected by the sufferings around us e.g. the multitude of migrant workers, cancer patients etc. that we see around us daily?  Jesus wants us to be more like Him; to value each person as precious in God’s eyes.
