Reflection on the WORD

Serving God’s People: In today’s Gospel, Jesus instructed His disciples to go to a lonely place to have some rest from the crowd that were clamouring for Him, and the Good News.  Ponder on, “Serving God selflessly is a virtue, but wisdom is serving with a passionate and discerning heart, like Jesus.”

Mark 6:30-34

The apostles rejoined Jesus and told him all they had done and taught. Then he said to them, ‘You must come away to some lonely place all by yourselves and rest for a while’; for there were so many coming and going that the apostles had no time even to eat. So they went off in the boat to a lonely place where they could be by themselves.

But people saw them going, and many could guess where; and from every town they all hurried to the place on foot and reached it before them. So as he stepped ashore he saw a large crowd; and he took pity on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he set himself to teach them at some length.

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •Jesus asked His disciples to ‘Come away to some lonely place all by yourselves and rest for a while’. He knows the importance of rest for a tired person.
  • •Ponder on your present lifestyle and ask yourself whether it is time for you and your family to take a well-deserved rest?
  • •What about a “spiritual rest” and “re-charge” that can be done through a few days of silent retreat? Bring this to prayer and try to sense what the Lord may be saying to you and/or your family.
