Reflection on the WORD
God’s People: In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminded His disciples to: build unity amongst people who serves in His Name, value every good deeds, and never divide or deceive people (especially children), in the faith. Ponder on, “Do we live these teachings of Jesus daily or do we justify all our words and deeds?”
Mark 9:38-42
John said to Jesus, ‘Master, we saw a man who is not one of us casting out devils in your name, and because he was not one of us we tried to stop him.’ But Jesus said, ‘You must not stop him; no one who works a miracle in my name is likely to speak evil of me. Anyone who is not against us is for us.
‘If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink just because you belong to Christ, then I tell you solemnly, he will most certainly not lose his reward.
‘But anyone who is an obstacle to bring down one of these little ones who have faith, would be better thrown into the sea with a great millstone hung round his neck.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- •In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us to serve and be apostolic, not to be exclusive and judgmental about the service of others. Jesus said, “Anyone who is not against us is for us.”
- •Pray for the gift of openness of hearts to be united in our service of God’s people especially those who are in need. If we are upset with the apostolic works of others, ask ourselves whether or not it is due to our jealousy, want of attention etc.?
- •Ponder on this Gospel text again and reflect on the way you treat others who are serving God and try to sense what is God’s challenge for you. Speak to the Lord from your heart.
