Reflection on the WORD

God’s Revelation: In today’s Gospel, Jesus thanked His Father in prayer, for revealing the Divine Truth to “mere children”; i.e. believers with the humility and sincerity to know, love and serve Him.  This is in contrast to the “learned and clever”; i.e. the scribes and Pharisees, who are proud, scheming and corrupt.  What is Jesus saying to me?

Matthew 11:25-27

Jesus exclaimed, ‘I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children. Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do.

Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Do I desire to know Jesus and God more? Or, do I lack a strong desire? Or, Am I just being indifferent? Why?
  • What must I do in order to know Jesus more and more? Do I participate in the Eucharist regularly? Do I pray often?
  • How is Jesus revealing God to me concretely in my own life now? How should I respond to this revelation of God? How is Jesus’ Spirit inviting me to live more fully in His ways?
