Reflection on the WORD
“Fruits of Faith”: In today’s Gospel, to distinguish true and false prophets, Jesus tells His disciples, “A sound tree produces good fruit; but a rotten tree, bad fruit.” Ponder on, “Am I a sound tree that produces the good fruits of peace, unity and love within my family and others? What quality of faith and life do I live daily?”
Matthew 7:15-20
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Beware of false prophets who come to you disguised as sheep but underneath are ravenous wolves. You will be able to tell them by their fruits. Can people pick grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?
‘In the same way, a sound tree produces good fruit but a rotten tree bad fruit. A sound tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor a rotten tree bear good fruit. Any tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown on the fire. I repeat, you will be able to tell them by their fruits.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- •Jesus makes it very clear that we will be able to tell the true selves of people by their actions because a sound tree cannot bear bad fruit or a rotten tree bear good fruit.
- •Christian discernment enables us to view our lives and the world through the eyes of faith i.e. how Jesus would have lived the Truth of His Father’s Will.
- •Let us pause to examine ourselves: “Are we people who bear good fruit or bad fruit especially in the lives of people? Are people drawn closer to God through our relationship with Him?” Let us pray for divine grace to nourish us so we will bear more good fruit.
