Reflection on the WORD

Faith - Prayer Life: In today’s Gospel, Jesus taught His disciples to pray the “Our Father” prayer.  The essence of our prayers is always to seek and to glorify His Father’s Will.  Also, with God’s Merciful grace, we need to beg God to protect us from all evil, to forgive us our sins, as we forgive others’ who sin towards us.

Matthew 6:7-15

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘In your prayers do not babble as the pagans do, for they think that by using many words they will make themselves heard. Do not be like them; your Father knows what you need before you ask him. So you should pray like this:

Our Father in heaven, may your name be held holy,

your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven those who are in debt to us.

And do not put us to the test, but save us from the evil one.

‘Yes, if you forgive others their failings, your heavenly Father will forgive you yours; but if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive your failings either.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • •If God knows what we need before we ask Him, why then the need to pray for the needs that we have?
  • •Prayer doesn’t move God to change His mind but instead expresses our utter dependence on His Providence and to acknowledge Him as our Lord and Creator.
  • Effective prayer is listening to God. “Our Father in heaven, Creator, Lord and Master, give us the heart and mind to be always attentive to You”.
