Mary, Mother of the Church: Monday 24th May, 2021 May 24, 2021
Reflection on the WORD
Faith - Mary: In today’s Gospel, Jesus entrustedMary to the apostle John, (the representative of the Church), as his Mother to Care and Love. Likewise, to John, as son, accepted Mary, as his Mother. Today’s joyous Feast celebrates God’s Will for believers to embrace Mary with devoted love, reverence and gratitude as Mother of the Church.

John 19:25-27
Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala.
Seeing his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near her, Jesus said to his mother, Woman, this is your son.’’ Then to the disciple he said, ‘This is your mother.’ And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- •Mary, as Mother of Jesus, nursed, cared and loved Him unconditionally. Her love for Jesus and her obedience to God our Father’s Will are inseparable.
- •Mary’s love for Jesus was total and single-minded. As such, she accepts the mystery of Her Son’s suffering and death willingly even though her heart was torn and traumatized.
- •Mary is rightly the Mother of the Church because of her deep love for her Son’s mission to fulfil His Father’s Will to save all peoples. Let us ask Mary to continue to pray for us.
