Reflection on the WORD
“Money or God”?: In today’s Gospel Jesus proclaims to the Pharisees, “You cannot be the slave ofboth God and money.” Ponder on, “While financial stability is good and important, are we preoccupied with having more money, at the expense of the division of our family and relationships; which is not God’s Will?”
Luke 16:10-15
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Anyone who is trustworthy in little things is trustworthy in great; anyone who is dishonest in little things is dishonest in great. If then you are not trustworthy with money, that tainted thing, who will trust you with genuine riches? And if you are not trustworthy with what is not yours, who will give you what is your very own?
‘No servant can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or be attached to the first and despise the second. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.
The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and jeered at him. He said to them, ‘You are the very ones who pass yourselves off as upright in people's sight, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed in human eyes is loathsome in the sight of God.’

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- •We have to make a firm stand and have clear moral principles in our lives so that we can live the Gospel values of God in our Christian vocation.
- •This does not mean that we have to be rigid, self-righteous or condemnatory. However there are Gospel values that are “non-negotiable” e. g. the preservation of the sacredness of human lives, sale of human organs, abortion and the like.
- •Have we educated ourselves with the Church’s Moral Teachings or do we go by the trend of the masses so as not be viewed as outdated and unpopular? Pray for God’s guiding wisdom in your life.
