Reflection on the WORD

Witness of Faith: In today’s Gospel, Jesus prays to His Father to lead and unite those who believe in Him as our Messiah, who proclaims the Gospel of Eternal Salvation.  Let us pray for the humility and Christ-like ways of bringing God’s Peace, Unity and Love to all peoples through our daily living and challenges.

John 17:20-24

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said: ‘I pray not only for these but also for those who through their teaching will come to believe in me. May they all be one, just as, Father, you are in me and I am in you, so that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe it was you who sent me. I have given them the glory you gave to me, that they may be one as we are one. With me in them and you in me, may they be so perfected in unity that the world will recognise that it was you who sent me and that you have loved them as you have loved me.

‘Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they may always see my glory which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word

As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?

  • Millions of people in this world still do not know Jesus as our Savior and Lord who gives us eternal life.
  • We Christians are so “blessed” to have the gift of such a faith.  Jesus’ Prayer to His Father expresses His deep concern and compassion that none may be lost; that all may gain eternal life.
  • As “heirs” of this gift of faith passed down to us from the Apostles, God expects us to continue to bring this Truth of Christ to all peoples.  Who are the obvious person(s) that the Spirit is urging you to reach out today?
