Reflection on the WORD
Faith – Depth: In today’s Gospel, Jesus was not impressed by the great crowds who were clamouring after Him because they were filled with curiosity about who Jesus is. Their faith was superficial and superstitious. Let us pray to deepen our faith in Jesus with greater sincerity, openness and trust.
Luke 11:29-32
The crowds got even bigger and Jesus addressed them, ‘This is an evil generation; it is asking for a sign. The only sign it will be given is the sign of Jonah. For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of man be a sign to this generation.
‘On Judgement Day the Queen of the South will stand up against the people of this generation and be their condemnation, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, look, there is something greater than Solomon here.
‘On Judgement Day the men of Nineveh will appear against this generation and be its condemnation, because when Jonah preached they repented; and, look, there is something greater than Jonah here.’

Today's Pointers on God's Word
As you read the passage what words, phases or meanings caught your attention?
- The Scribes and Pharisees could not accept the signs that Jesus performed right before their eyes. Just as they had rejected the message of John the Baptist, they also rejected Jesus as God's Promised Messiah.
- Jesus gave a rather stern warning to His generation when they demanded a sign from Him. He called them an evil generation. If Jesus was to appear amongst us today, what would Jesus say to us about our generation?
- Do you thirst for Jesus? Ask the Lord to strengthen your faith and to give you the graces you need to follow Him more wholeheartedly by being more Christ-like especially to the people we meet daily.
